There are few things as anticipated as Christmas. That time of the year when we all get together with loved ones to swap gifts and indulge on food and drink. But for some people, Christmas is not a time associated with revelry.
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. Those who suffer with mental illness will find the winter months harder than most. The short days and cold damp weather can result in an increased mental health issues for many in society. In Guildford, we are lucky to have Oakleaf Enterprise. A small charity working hard to help some of the most vulnerable among us.
They offer work-related training, counselling and a wide range of activities and courses to help people get back on the road to recovery.
With COVID disruption, many charities are struggling to stay afloat at the moment. Not being able to fundraise is having a terrible impact on their ability to provide their much-needed services. In reaction to this, Oakleaf have asked that people donate to their Christmas gift basket appeal:
This is intended as a small gesture, a way to help those who are struggling to mark the festive season at a time of year which can be particularly challenging for people suffering depression, anxiety and isolation. We hope these baskets show our clients that they are cared for and have not been forgotten this Christmas, even if we can’t hold our traditional celebration.
You can make a £20 donation through the Oakleaf Website. Each donation pays for one basket.
