The Rushmoor Borough Council Hampshire County Council and Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire elections taking place this May are a vital opportunity for local residents across Aldershot and Farnborough to have their say on who represents them and on the policies which will ultimately be taken forward on a variety of important local issues.

As the major three parties contesting these elections, there are many important differences between us on numerous policy areas. All of us will be working hard to inform people about our respective policy positions and the reasons why we believe that these and our candidates are the best for Rushmoor.

Leaflets, newsletters and online messaging from our candidates will continue, to ensure that everyone has a chance to be thoroughly informed about their choices this year, but we will not be knocking on doors and canvassing this year – nor will we be greeting at polling stations on election day.

Rushmoor knows what it’s like to experience a high rate of infection and, whilst key workers and volunteers are still working tirelessly to keep our community going and fight this pandemic, we do not believe that we should expose members of the public, including many potentially vulnerable people, to avoidable contact.

This is not a decision we’ve made lightly, and we do not wish in any way to limit the electorate’s ability to contact our candidates. We will be making every effort to be as contactable as possible during this period.

To help to ensure the safety of local residents, we encourage all other candidates and parties standing in these elections to join us in this pledge.
