We have not one, but three potential vaccines on their way at the current time. Should we be deliriously happy? YES! Of course, we should. This is the result of feverish 24/7 work in a race to stem the destruction caused by COVID-19. The reason these vaccines have been produced so quickly is because the base formula already existed for other diseases, it has simply been adapted to specifically target the COVID-19 virus that and elimination of some unnecessary rubber-stamping along the way.
Nothing is fool-proof of course but it’s as good as we can get right now. So why are people against the vaccine?
Are they…
- Ignorant of the facts and why we ALL need to become immune to this virus.
- Conspiracy theorists, convinced that Vaccines and Lockdown are all part of some big master plan to take over our minds and our lives.
- Fearful that taking the vaccine will have horrendous side effects.
- Just plain selfish, completely dismissive of the welfare of others and the fact that the vaccines will only work if we all participate.
I really don’t know which of the above applies but I’m definitely up for it! I’ve heard people saying they don’t want to be a Guinea Pig, but I’d rather be a ‘Live’ guinea pig than a dead human being. Besides, don’t these people remember all the vaccines they had as children: Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Mumps, Diphtheria and so on…
Many of these diseases would still be rampantly killing thousands of people indiscriminately if we hadn’t all taken a vaccine to stop them.
From a very selfish point of view, it’s not all bad: the vaccines will be in high demand to start with and not enough to go round so the people who refuse to vaccinate will improve the chances of the rest of us of getting an early vaccine by reducing demand.
Plus when these unvaccinated people catch the virus the hospitals will be much better able to cope with the lower numbers as a result of everyone else being fit, healthy and immune.
