In the UK companies that recycle plastics are paid PRN’s for every tonne of materials recycled. If a tonne of plastic is exported, the company will receive a payment for recycling that plastic, but what happens to it once it leaves the UK?
This system allows us to boast about how much recycling we do, when in reality we do very little, instead dumping our rubbish on the rest of the world. I have always recycled, but I may be better off-putting all my rubbish in landfill.
After watching this, try telling me we are a country that cares about the environment.
We like to think that we do, but is that enough?
